RVS YUVA Melodies celebrate World Music Day at St.Thomas Old Age Home, Coimbatore
Music plays a vital role in our lives. Music can bring people together in different ways, making us expressive and helping us understand our feelings and emotions better. World Music Day is observed on 21st June worldwide. Music lovers organize musical concerts and events on this day to showcase the talents of musicians all over the world.
RVS YUVA Melodies is the official music club of the RVS Group of Institutions. To celebrate World Music Day distinctly, the music club students from RVS YUVA, Sulur campus visited St.Thomas Home, an old age home at Ramanathapuram, Coimbatore. The visit was intended to spend some quality time with the people there and bring cheer and a smile to their faces with the magic of music. The students could literally witness the happiness in the faces of the older people who were longing to see some interaction. They enjoyed singing songs with the younger generation, and the students thanked them for the excellent opportunity. They were so proud that they could bring joy to the lives of those people. The grandmothers and grandfathers forgot their worries for the moment and enjoyed the time spent with students and music, bringing so many memories back into their hearts.
Even at this age, they tried to sing along with the students which showed the level of spirit they possessed. The family of the elderly seldom visit their parents. Sadly for some, it may take hours, months, or even years. And mainly during the pandemic when no one was allowed to meet them, loneliness was at its peak. The Music Day celebrations at the old age home were indeed a boost for them to throw their loneliness away for a while. Our students motivated everyone there to participate in the singing activities.
Medical research proves that music helps in more effortless blood flow, and music therapy effectively reduces stress in elderly homes. It can be administered as an alternative treatment for treating stress in long-term care patients. It also improves their moods, brings back older happy memories, encourages socialization, and promotes overall mental and physical health. Kudos to RVS YUVA Melodies for carrying out such a commendable deed.
